Tom Ellis’ Lucifer to appear In crisis On infinite Earths CW Crossover: Rumor (Updated!)

This year’s annual Arrowverse crossover is one of the biggest ever attempted for television. The crisis on infinite Earths story will see the CW superhero shows crossover with other DC shows, like Tom Welling returning from Smallville. A new rumor suggests that Tom Ellis’s Lucifer will appear on the crisis on infinite Earths crossover in an concealed rule. This may seem like an out-of-place casting choice. However, Lucifer on Netflix has deep roots in the comics. He first appeared in Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series (also coming to Netflix) abdicating his throne in Hell. Later, Mike Carey composed the Lucifer comic series, but set it outside of mainstream DC continuity. Still, this means that the series, first aired on Fox and now on the streaming wars original contender, is technically part of the DC multiverse.

To be clear, this is only a rumor, but it’s one that seems likely given that both series film in Vancouver.

Some crossover casting is confirmed, such as Kevin Conroy playing Bruce Wayne. We also understand that Brandon Routh is the Kingdom Come Superman. However, the producers are trying to keep a few of them a surprise. including Lucifer in crisis on infinite Earths is likely one of those they tried to keep under wraps. nevertheless a self-proclaimed “autograph hound” and “Vancouver spoilers poster” who goes by Candagraphs on Twitter, spilled the deviled beans. This person states that a chauffeur working for The Flash flashed them with their high-beam headlights intentionally. It may have been to cover up what was happening.

They write:

“There was a scene with at least 4 actors tonight at the set. David Ramsey, Katherine McNamara, and Matt Ryan…no surprises there. They did a scene with Tom Ellis dressed like Lucifer Morningstar.”

There’s a great deal to break down here, including a surprise that Candagraphs doesn’t recognize they revealed. Katherine McNamara is Oliver Queen’s daughter from the future and the subject of the new Arrow spinoff series in the works. Unless Ramsey, who plays John Diggle, and Ryan, who plays John Constantine, are time-traveling, Mia may come to the present. Now, this is not confirmation of that. Diggle and Constantine could simply be in old-age make-up, meaning she’s satisfying them in her time. Constantine is a character on Legends of Tomorrow, a show about time-traveling superheroes. So, we’ll have to wait and see exactly how that plays out.

But what’s Lucifer Morningstar doing there?

Since the threat of the crisis on infinite Earths threatens all of existence, it seems that the Lord of hell may have a vested rate of interest in assisting our heroes along. Yet, when we last left Lucifer, he decided to abandon the mortal world and return to Hell. Lucifer season five earned an extension, adding six episodes to their final season. These episodes are currently in production, possible nearing completion. The show films in Vancouver, so it may be a simple bit cameo because he was close. since the final season of Lucifer won’t air for some time, it’s unlikely the crossover will extend to that series. Still, we may get a tease about what brings Lucifer back to earth after going back to Hell. Or, more simply, he’s acting as the King of hell in assisting the heroes.

Either way, seeing Lucifer as part of the crisis on infinite Earths will be a fun treat. He may be playing the version of the character all of us understand or he may be playing the Lucifer of a different universe. In the comics, the multiverse doesn’t each have a version of the celestials. That could change, however, for the TV show. Either way, we’ve got a few weeks to speculate.

Update: Tom Ellis Denies involvement in the crisis Crossover

In the above clip, Tom Ellis denies Lucifer will appear in the Crisis on infinite Earths crossover. Asked about the rumors by home entertainment tonight, Ellis verified he was in Vancouver where filming is underway. However, he states he went to the city for his friends’ wedding. He also said, “hard pass,” to the concept of entering the Arrowverse. On its face, this seems like a remove denial, and they’ve been fairly open about who will appear in the event. Still, the producers stated that they wished to keep some tricks close their chests, and Lucifer may qualify. So, unless he’s rejecting his involvement because of some contract-related deal, the devil will not stick his horns into the multiversal madness on CW.

Nonetheless, the original source is sticking by their story.

Update 2.0, Uno reverse Edition

Well, it appears like Candagraphs was appropriate in guessing that Tom Ellis was not being truthful about appearing in the Crisis on infinite Earths event. (And the Devil is not supposed to lie!) Still, it makes sense that he wished to protect the surprise. Still, he’s a gentleman Devil. Not only did he deliver a few minutes of peak Lucifer on the CW, he also restored the reporter he lied to in order to set the record straight.
